What’s life like for LGBTQ people in Albania? Let's take a look at some of the key equality indicators. 

### Is homosexuality legal in Albania?

Homosexuality in Albania has been decriminalised since 1995, with an equal age of consent in place since 2001.

### Are there any anti-discrimination protections for LGBTQ people in Albania?

Yes. Comprehensive protections against discrimination were implemented in 2010.

### Is there Marriage Equality in Albania?

No. There is no legal recognition of same-sex relationships.

### What’s life like for LGBTQ people in Albania?

While attitudes are changing, Albania is a socially conservative country, and homosexuality has been seen as something of a taboo subject.

The recent move by Albania’s professional body of psychologists to ban conversion therapy is a step forward.

The recent [ILGA report on LGBTQ Equality](https://rainbowmap.ilga-europe.org/countries/albania/?ref=gtv.blue) in Europe ranked Albania 25th overall. With a total score of 40.58%, Albania scored well on the criteria of Civil Society Space and also Equality & Non-discrimination but lost points on all other criteria.
