Directed by Simon Stone, the script has been written by Stephen Beresford. Beresford was the writer of Pride (2014), in which Andrew Scott also starred. Also confirmed in the cast of Elsinore is Olivia Colman, with the production scheduled to begin filming in January. “Stephen Beresford’s screenplay is both heartbreaking and hilarious, a beautiful ode to the power of community in times of crisis...” said Simon Stone in a statement to the press. “Andrew Scott is one of the greatest actors of his generation as Ian Charleson was: it’s momentous casting.” Early publicity indicates that Elsinore will tell the story of Charleson as he prepared to give his final performance as Hamlet in 1989 - a few weeks before his death. Born in 1976, Andrew Scott grew up in Dublin where he took acting lessons. Cast in his first major role at the age of 17, Scott moved to London when he was 22 to pursue his acting career. Scott's work has been prolific - across theatre, film, and television. Significant roles have included Moriarty in Sherlock, Hot Priest in Fleabag, and Adam in All of Us Strangers. His work has been nominated for numerous awards, and he has won theatre and television awards.
