### Is homosexuality legal in Finland?

Yes. Homosexuality was decriminalised in 1971.

The age-of-consent was equalised in 1999.

Yes. Comprehensive anti-discrimination protections have been in place since 1995.

### Is there Marriage Equality in Finland?

Yes. Legal recognition of same-sex relationships began in 2002.

Marriage Equality was enacted in 2014.

### What’s life like for LGBTQ people in Finland?

Finland is often referred to as one of the world’s most LGBTQ-friendly countries.

It is one of the countries that continues to set the standard for LGBTQ equality.

In the most recent [ILGA report on LGBTQ Equality in Europe](https://rainbowmap.ilga-europe.org/countries/finland/?ref=gtv.blue), Finland was ranked 6th overall. With a total score of 69.85%, Finland lost points on the criteria of Hate Crime & Hate Speech, Intersex Bodily Integrity, and also Asylum.
