### Is homosexuality legal in Ireland?

Yes. Homosexuality was decriminalised in 1993.

### Are there anti-discrimination protections in place for LGBTQ people?

Yes. Comprehensive anti-discrimination protections were introduced in 1998.

### Is there Marriage Equality in Ireland?

Yes. A popular vote approved in 2015 approved the introduction of Marriage Equality.

Legal recognition of same-sex relationships was implemented in 2010.

### What’s life like for LGBTQ people in Ireland?

The transformation of Ireland in recent decades is fairly remarkable – from being a very socially conservative place, it’s now considered to be one of the most liberal in the world.

There is a vibrant and visible LGBTQ community in Ireland.

In the recent [ILGA report on LGBTQ Equality in Europe](https://rainbowmap.ilga-europe.org/countries/ireland/?ref=gtv.blue), Ireland was ranked 14th overall. With a total score of 61.34%, Ireland lost most of its points on the criteria of Equality & Non-discrimination, and also Intersex Bodily Integrity.
