What’s life like for LGBTQ people in Kosovo? Let’s take a look at some of the key equality indicators. 

### Is homosexuality legal in Kosovo?

Yes. Same-sex sexual activity was decriminalised in 1994.

### Are there anti-discrimination protections in place for LGBTQ people in Kosovo?

Yes. Comprehensive protections were enshrined in the country’s constitution in 2008.

### Is there Marriage Equality in Kosovo?

No. The legislation currently limits marriage to opposite-sex couples, but it’s likely that if this was challenged in the Constitutional Court then this might be overturned.

There is currently no legal recognition of same-sex relationships.

### What’s life like for LGBTQ people in Kosovo?

Kosovo is a socially conservative country, and homosexuality is generally viewed as a taboo subject.

There is an LGBTQ community in Kosovo that is growing in visibility. 

The recent [ILGA report on LGBTQ Equality in Europe](https://rainbowmap.ilga-europe.org/countries/kosovo/?ref=gtv.blue) ranked Kosovo 28th overall. With a total score of 34.82%, Kosovo scored strongly on Civil Society Space but lost points on all other criteria.
