What’s life like for LGBTQ people in Liechtenstein? Let’s take a look at some of the key equality measures.

### Is homosexuality legal in Liechtenstein?

Yes. Same-sex sexual activity was decriminalised in 1989.

The age-of-consent was equalised at 14 in 2001.

### Are there anti-discrimination protections in place for LGBTQ people in Liechtenstein?

Yes. There have been protections against discrimination on the grounds of sexuality since 2016.

### Is there Marriage Equality in Liechtenstein?

Yes. Same-sex partnerships have been recognised legally since 2011 and Marriage Equality was delivered in 2o25.

### What’s life like for LGBTQ people in Liechtenstein?

While Liechtenstein is a socially conservative country, there is generally little discussion of anyone’s private life.

It’s a small country, so the LGBTQ community is not particularly visible or vibrant.

While some significant progress has been made on LGBTQ equality, there's clearly more work to do. The most recent [report from ILGA](https://rainbowmap.ilga-europe.org/?ref=gtv.blue) ranked Liechtenstein as 31st out of all the countries in Europe.

While [Liechtenstein scored strongly](https://rainbowmap.ilga-europe.org/countries/liechtenstein/?ref=gtv.blue) on the Civil Society Space criteria, and did well on the Family criteria, weaknesses were exposed in terms of Equality & Non-discrimination, Hate Crime & Hate Speech, and Legal Gender Recognition.
