# 100 Heroes: Marlon Brando

Born in 1924, Marlon Brando was an renowned actor. 

His career spanned six decades - he consistently delivered iconic performances and won numerous awards.

Beginning his career on stage, Brando successfully transitioned into film - his first major hit was A Streetcar Named Desire in 1951, in which he was nominated for an Academy Award for his portrayal of Stanley Kowalski.

His performance as Terry Malloy in the 1954 film, On the Waterfront, was another career highlight - he won an Academy Award for that role.

His career continued to have highs and lows throughout the subsequent decade. His final appearance was in a 2001 film, The Score.

### Personal life

Brando openly talked about his numerous affairs with both men and women.

Significant relationships with men are believed to have included Sandy Campbell, Wally Cox, and Richard Pryor.

In 2004, Brando died of respiratory failure - he was 80 years old.
