What’s life like for LGBTQ people in Moldova? Let’s take a look at some of the key equality indicators. 

### Is homosexuality legal in Moldova?

Yes. Same-sex sexual activity was decriminalised in 1995.

The age-of-consent is equal, regardless of sexuality.

### Are there anti-discrimination protections in place for LGBTQ people in Moldova?

Yes, there are anti-discrimination provisions in place that protect against discrimination on the grounds of sexuality. These have been in place since 2012.

### Is there Marriage Equality in Moldova?

No - there is no legal recognition of same-sex relationships. 

The constitution specifically limits marriage to opposite-sex couples.

### What’s life like for LGBTQ people in Moldova?

Moldova is a socially conservative country. The Orthodox Christian Church plays an influential role in shaping views and attitudes.

Homophobia is systemic, and homosexuality is seen as a taboo subject.

The recent [ILGA report on LGBTQ Equality in Europe](https://rainbowmap.ilga-europe.org/countries/moldova/?ref=gtv.blue) ranked Moldova 26th overall. With a total score of 38.41%, Moldova scored strongly on Civil Society Space but lost points on all other criteria.
