### Is homosexuality legal in Nauru?

Yes. Same-sex sexual activity was decriminalised in 2016.

From 1921, Nauru operated under the criminal code of Queensland – a state of Australia. This included the criminalisation of homosexuality. This prohibition was retained following Nauru’s independence in 1968\. Decriminalisation was achieved following an act of parliament.

### Are there anti-discrimination protections in place for LGBTQ people in Nauru?

There are some limited protections in place but not a comprehensive framework that fully protects LGBTQ people.

### Is there Marriage Equality in Nauru?

No. There is no legal recognition of same-sex relationships.
