### Is homosexuality legal in North Macedonia?

Yes. Same-sex sexual activity was decriminalised in 1996.

### Are there anti-discrimination protections in place for LGBTQ people in North Macedonia?

Yes, comprehensive protections were implemented in 2019.

### Is there Marriage Equality in North Macedonia?

No. There is no legal recognition of same-sex relationships. The current law explicitly restricts marriage to opposite-sex couples.

### What’s life like for LGBTQ people in North Macedonia?

North Macedonia is a socially conservative country. There is a small LGBTQ community.

The recent [ILGA report on LGBTQ equality in Europe](https://rainbowmap.ilga-europe.org/countries/north-macedonia/?ref=gtv.blue) ranked North Macedonia 33rd overall. With a total score of 29.26%, North Macedonia scored strongly on Civil Society Space but lost points on all other criteria.
