There are seven separate Emirates that come together to form the United Arab Emirates. The penal code of the United Arab Emirates specifies that same-sex sexual relations between men is an offence punishable by death.

No protection — it is illegal to be gay.

No equality — it is illegal to be gay.

It is illegal to be gay.

Internet access is restricted and monitored. This greatly inhibits queer people from identifying and connecting with each other. This also makes it difficult to access information about LGBTQ issues or topics of interest.

However, there is an underground gay scene in Dubai, mostly in the form of private parties. Local men will often lead a dual life.
