What to watch: I Kissed A Boy - Season 2

A reality dating show that turns the spotlight on queer men, and it gets a lot of things right!

Dannii Minogue is back fronting another season of the reality dating show, I Kissed A Boy.

This is a dating show that centres queer men.

The first season hit our screens with low expectations but proved surprisingly popular as the production team seemed to find the right balance between creating entertaining and watchable TV while also treating their cast with affection and respect.

Season 2 features 11 queer guys searching for love.

Filmed in Italy, the cast are matched up with a prospective date before their arrival. Upon arrival, everyone has to kiss the guy that they've been matched with - as per the title of the series. You can learn a lot about a guy by kissing him - perhaps everything that you need to know.

Episode 1 introduced us to the first batch of boys - none of which seem to feature in the main casting announcements so I'm guessing there's a relatively high turn-over. The most interesting guy in Episode 1 was Joe, a mormon from Rhyl who had his first kiss with a guy on the show - which seems like a lot to process.

While it's great to see queer representation on screen, I'm fairly confident that I'm not the target audience for this show. It feels like very much a gay version of Love Island, with all the heteronormativity that comes with that.

Main take-away from Episode 1? Dannii Minogue is looking good.
