Gay Cinema Classic: Brokeback Mountain

Released in 2005, Brokeback Mountain the film adaptation of the novella by Annie Proulx.

Directed by Ang Lee, the film stars Heath Ledger, Jake Gyllenhaal, Anne Hathaway, and Michelle Williams.

The story centres around two cowboys - Ennis Del Mar and Jack Twist - following their relationship from 1963 to 1983.

As written by Proulx, Ennis and Jack didn't do a lot of talking but we felt everything they were feeling. Ang Lee manages to successfully translate that sparseness of dialogue to the screen - enabling us to feel the inner turmoil of Ennis and Jack as they connect with each other and try to figure out their desires.

The film was critically acclaimed, with the performances of Ledger and Gyllenhaal central to the emotional resonance felt by audiences.
