For Sayre, the idea of the "40-year-old woman" is not a demographic but a state of mind. Taking the milestone of turning 40 as its starting point, the show asks what it means to age in a culture that treats youth as the only currency worth having.
The show also opens into a wider conversation about queer ageing and visibility.
