Gus Kenworthy protests ICE at Winter Olympics

With the Winter Olympics just getting under way in Milan, Gus Kenworthy is already hitting the headlines.

Representing Great Britain, this is 34-year-old Kenworthy's fourth Olympics competition - he's become one of the highest profile queer sportspeople in the world.

According to his post on Instagram, Kenworthy suggests that he has urinated the words "Fuck ICE" onto the snow at his feet.

“Innocent people have been murdered, and enough is enough...” wrote Kenworthy in the post accompanying the image. “We can’t wait around while ICE continues to operate with unchecked power in our communities. Senators still have leverage right now … and must use it to demand real guardrails and accountability – including getting ICE and CBP [customs and border protection] out of our communities, ending blank-check funding for brutality, and establishing clear limits on warrantless arrests, profiling, and enforcement at sensitive locations like schools and hospitals.”

Kenworthy’s comments are particularly notable given that ICE agents are in Milan as part of the security detail for the US vice president JD Vance, who is attending the opening ceremony of the event.

Although political protests are prohibited at the Olympics, it seems that because the protest was made on social media then Kenworthy won't face any censure.
