How do you pick up a guy in the gym?
A tried and tested ten-step technique.
Are you just in the gym to work out, or are you open to other opportunities?
One of the good things about the gym – especially if you’re not a sporty person and just want to find motivation to work on your body – is that it’s full of fit dudes that you would gladly get hot and sweaty with.
But how do you make the first move and get the attention of the guy that you’re eyeing off over the bench-press?
Here’s a tried and tested ten-step technique.
One
Wear something sexy.
It could be slutty shorts, or a jockstrap that is clearly visible, or maybe just freeball in some lycra shorts.
Use what you're wearing to signal your sexual intentions.
Two
Complete your workout as usual but modify as required to bring you closer to the guy that you've got your eye on.
Three
Put your observation skills to work - what can you find out about him just by paying attention?
Is he at the gym by himself? Is he listening to music? What sort of exercises is he focusing on?
What you're looking for are conversation starters or points of connection that can create opportunities for you to get on his radar.
Four
Make some eye contact.
Don't be creepy, but let your body language make it clear that you're aware of his presence in a positive way.
Five
Get verbal. Speak to him - but make it low-key, low-risk, low-vibrational. Ask him if he's using that dumbbell, or mention something about the weight that he's lifting. It's non-threatening gym talk, but it breaks the ice.
Six
Give him some space. After you've initiated contact, let him sit with that for a bit. Don't come on too strong.
Seven
Give him a compliment. Say that you like something that he's wearing - ask what brand it is.
Eight
Ask his advice. It could be a question about technique, or an exercise that you've seen him doing. Get him to spot you on the benchpress - it's a classic but it works.
Nine
Tease him a little. Make a joke about something that he's doing - maybe suggest that he could lift more, or that he's making a weird face when he lifts. Maybe he's grunting. Don't be mean, be fun and flirty.
Ten
Be direct. Tell him that you're into him. Make that move.
Even if he's not into it, he'll be flattered by the attention. If the plan works, you could be sticking your face into his armpit as soon as you hit the locker-room.
