Kent Monkman expansive landscapes presents us visions of a reimagined past.

While Monkman plays with gender roles and often celebrates the saucier side of frontier life in American history, his art also highlights the colonial destruction of indigenous American communities and culture.

Monkman is an artist of Cree ancestry.

His work is included in the collections of the National Gallery of Canada, the Art Gallery of Ontario, and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.
