Photo-shoot: Ming-Yao

On a recent trip to Barcelona, I caught up with Ming-Yao for a beach-side photo-shoot.

Demonstrating versatility in every respect, Ming-Yao is a fitness model with a drag alter-ego known as Minhi Wang who has competed on Canada's Drag Race.

The photo-shoot

Staying in Poblenau, we were heading to Mar Bella beach to cool off. The fitness equipment that we passed on the way seemed to good of an opportunity to pass up - Ming stripped off and I pulled out my camera.

It wasn't really clear how the various bits of exercise equipment were supposed to be used, but they made useful props as bemused beach-goers admired Ming hitting pose after pose in the heat of the Spanish sun.

While there's photo-editing tools that enable you to remove the background in photos such as these, I kind of like the sense that this is happening in a place where people are just going about their business.

Ming's outfit of choice was a black speedo paired with black trainers and black socks, accessorised with some black sunglasses.

It's a cool look but it sometimes makes it difficult to tell where his feet stops and the shadows begin.

This table tennis table was a bit of a winner. It's kind of like he's lying a big beach towel, but instead it's a table tennis table.

Maybe there's also an interpretation about showing how table tennis is a sexy sport and it's usually Asian guys that excel?

Above the beach was a promenade where we put these benches to good use.

Standing above the busy beach below, Ming towers powerfully, like a bronzed god or an ancient warrior.

I like this pose from Ming but the light was tricky from this angle - just playing with a few photo-editing effects to see what's possible.

People need to know.
