Walking Group for Queer Men: The Report

Conversation and connection while exploring East London.

Walking Group for Queer Men: The Report

Our first Walking Group for Queer Men happened on Sunday morning, and it was a success!

I'm not judging the event on any objective performance criteria, but my gut-feeling is that it all worked and is worth doing again.

I'm co-hosting these walks with my friend, Emi. I like hosting events with Emi but roping him in was also a bit of a safety net - I thought that, worse-case scenario, if no one showed up then we could at least have a nice walk together.

We had four guys booked in for our first walk. One cancelled on the day and we had one no-show, but what we got was quality.

For this walk, the guys were:

  • Pascal
  • David

Both Pascal and David were easy company. There were similarities between them but also some differences.

David had been searching for a walking group to join and found us on OutSavvy via that search. Pascal enjoys getting naked and was looking for ways to connect with other guys, so came to the walk via the podcast.

The walk is straightforward. It's not a guided tour and it wasn't a race. We wandered through Columbia Road Market, across to Broadway Market, around London Fields, back along Regent's Canal, and returned to our starting point at Hoxton Overground Station.

Along the way, we had some great conversations. Nothing groundbreaking, just chatting about our experiences and our interests. About halfway, we stopped for a snack on Emi's balls - delicious.

The walk is definitely something that we'll be doing again. It's going to be a monthly thing!
